Ukrainian Su-27 pilot killed during the combat mission
Ukrainian pilot Oleksandr Borovyk, 30, from the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, was killed on Sept. 11 while carrying out a combat mission in the Zaporizhzhia sector, the brigade announced. He was flying a sortie around 1:30 p.m. when the incident occurred. The cause is under investigation, and his comrades honored him as a Hero.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast, in southeastern Ukraine, remains one of the most contested regions of the war. While Russia occupies about 70% of the territory, including the area surrounding Europe’s largest nuclear plant, the regional capital of Zaporizhzhia is still under Ukrainian control.
Ukraine warned last month of a Russian troop buildup in the area, but Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said earlier in September that Ukrainian forces had managed to prevent a new offensive from taking hold.
Russia is copying Ukraine`s drone technology as the direct technological race intensifies
Russia is increasingly adopting Ukrainian military technologies, particularly in interceptor drones, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Sept. 11. He described the war as a "technological race," stressing that Ukraine must stay ahead through constant innovation in unmanned systems.
Ukraine has made drones central to its defense, evolving from improvised commercial models to mass-produced attack and reconnaissance systems. Syrskyi said Ukrainian drones struck more than 60,000 Russian targets in August, while electronic warfare units jammed a growing number of Russian drones.
Still, Moscow has scaled up production of Shahed-type drones and expanded deep strikes. Ukraine, which Zelensky says could produce up to 8 million drones annually with enough funding, has urged international partners to support its defense industry to maintain the edge.
15-year-old boy who was injured in the Russian attack died in Kharkiv hospital
A 15-year-old boy injured in a Russian strike on Pishchane, Kupiansk district, on Aug. 10 has died in hospital, Kharkiv Oblast authorities reported.
The teenager had been in critical condition on a ventilator since the attack. Despite a month-long effort by doctors, his injuries proved fatal.
Russian shelling of the Kupiansk district has repeatedly targeted residential areas, causing civilian casualties, including children.
Ukraine warns Slovakia against shifting blame from Russia for the drone incursion in Poland
Kyiv has urged Slovakia not to cast doubt on Russia’s responsibility for violating Polish airspace, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said on Sept. 11. The statement followed Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar’s remarks suggesting the drones downed in Poland may have been intended for Ukraine.
Poland confirmed shooting down Russian drones over its territory on Sept. 10, marking NATO’s first direct engagement with Moscow’s military assets since the start of the full-scale war. Warsaw denounced the incursion of at least 19 drones as a deliberate Russian provocation, while Slovak leaders, including Prime Minister Robert Fico, questioned whether the violation was intentional.
Tykhyi stressed that the mass drone entry was “a fully deliberate escalation” by Moscow and called on Slovakia not to “shift responsibility away from Russia.” Ukraine urged NATO and EU partners to respond firmly, strengthen its air defenses, and tighten sanctions against Moscow.
