Ukraine is unaware of Trump’s announced energy easefire with Russia
Ukraine had no prior information about an energy ceasefire that U.S. President Donald Trump announced on October 11, a senior Ukrainian official told the Kyiv Independent.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed.” Shortly afterward, President Volodymyr Zelensky told Axios that if Trump had negotiated the deal with Vladimir Putin, Ukraine was ready to accept it and simply needed to know when it would begin.
Ukrainian officials also expressed doubt that Russia had been properly informed of the announced ceasefire. This is not the first time Trump has declared a pause in hostilities between the two countries, yet a concrete, mutually agreed arrangement has so far remained out of reach. The announcement came less than an hour after Zelensky told ABC News that if Trump could secure a two-month ceasefire, Ukraine could prepare for a new presidential election — something currently blocked by martial law introduced after Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
Putin secured a diesel deal with Trump without any concessions on Ukraine

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) assessed that the United States has allowed Russian diesel back onto American and global markets without receiving any concessions from Moscow regarding an end to the war against Ukraine.
According to ISW analysts, easing restrictions on Russian diesel exports could increase Moscow’s revenues and provide additional resources to continue its military campaign. The decision is viewed as a unilateral U.S. concession that may complicate efforts to end the fighting, as profits from oil product sales will help Russia finance its war expenditures.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had reached an agreement with Vladimir Putin for Russia to immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to U.S. and global markets, followed by another 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons afterward. At the same time, the U.S. Treasury issued a temporary license valid until April 7, 2027, permitting such supplies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the move as an “investment in the war.”
Three killed and nine injured in Russian attack on a store near Kharkiv

Ukraine is ready to halt strikes on Russian refineries if Russia stops attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure – Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is ready to stop striking Russian oil refineries if Moscow halts attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. In a post on X, Zelenskyy said any de-escalation must be reciprocal and backed by reliable guarantees.
“Ukraine will be ready to stop striking Russian oil refineries if Russia stops striking our energy infrastructure,” Zelensky said, adding that a halt to attacks on energy facilities could begin immediately if Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed.
Zelensky also said Russian forces had launched around 1,450 guided aerial bombs, 75 missiles and more than 1,640 attack drones against Ukraine over the past week. About 60% of the drones were jet-powered, he added.
