Hungary launches petition against EU's Ukraine war funding - Orban

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Oct. 11 a nationwide petition drive opposing what he called the European Union’s “war plan” to finance Ukraine’s defense against Russia. “In Copenhagen, Brussels’ war plan was presented: Europe pays, the Ukrainians fight, and Russia will eventually be exhausted. We don’t want any part of this,” Orban wrote on Facebook, saying the petition would reach “every city and every village” in Hungary.

Orban, the EU’s most openly pro-Russian leader, has long opposed military aid for Kyiv, blocked sanctions against Moscow, and resisted efforts to cut dependence on Russian energy. His campaign comes amid growing nationalist rhetoric ahead of Hungary’s 2026 elections and follows recent attacks on Ukraine’s EU accession bid, which he claims would force Hungary to bear the cost of the war. The petition mirrors earlier domestic initiatives used by his government to build leverage on divisive political issues.

Trump and Zelenskyy have discussed the possibility transfer Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump has discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the potential transfer of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, Axios reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

According to one of the sources, the call between the two leaders lasted about 30 minutes. It remains unclear whether a final decision has been made regarding the missile transfer.

The Efficiency of Patrion systems in Ukraine has fallen from 42% to 6%

ieutenant General Ihor Romanenko, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that Russian forces have upgraded their ballistic missile systems, significantly improving their effectiveness against Ukrainian air defenses.

“These include the Iskander-M and Kinzhal missiles — the latter being an air-launched version of the Iskander adapted for the MiG-31 fighter jet,” Romanenko explained. “The modification involves updated missile software, which has reduced the effectiveness of our Patriot batteries from 42% to 6%.”

He added that Ukraine has collected all the necessary data and shared it with the manufacturers of the Patriot systems. “They must respond and adjust the software to improve efficiency. We don’t have that many batteries,” Romanenko said.
