Russia launched a massive missile- drone attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure

Russia launched another large-scale overnight attack on multiple Ukrainian cities on November 8, using drones and a mix of Kinzhal hypersonic, cruise, and ballistic missiles.

The strikes targeted Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kremenchuk, and several communities in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Odesa oblasts. Explosions were also reported in Sumy.

In Kyiv, explosions were heard around 4:30 a.m., and air defenses were activated. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said falling drone debris caused a fire in the Pechersky district, damaging vehicles and nearby structures. The fire was later extinguished, and no casualties were reported.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said the “massive” attack targeted energy infrastructure, prompting emergency power outages in several regions. Energy facilities in Odesa Oblast were also hit. Restoration efforts are underway.

Earlier that night, a Russian drone strike on a residential building in Dnipro injured at least seven people, including two children.

Russia has intensified its strikes on Ukraine’s energy system this fall, following earlier attacks in October that destroyed around 60% of the country’s gas production capacity.

Russian drone strike on a residential building in Dnipro killed two civilians and injured eleven

Russia launched a drone strike on the city of Dnipro overnight on November 8, killing two people and injuring 11 others, including two children, local officials reported.

Several apartments in a multi-story residential building were destroyed, and a fire broke out at the site. Photos and videos from the scene show heavy damage to the building’s middle floors, between the fourth and sixth levels.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said six people were hospitalized, including a 13-year-old girl. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Vladyslav Haivanenko confirmed that the injured included children aged two and thirteen.

Rescue operations continue, and officials warned that the number of casualties may rise as recovery efforts progress.

Dnipro, located near Ukraine’s front-line regions, is a frequent target of Russian airstrikes. The attack was part of a wider overnight assault on Ukrainian cities, during which air raid alerts were issued across central and eastern Ukraine and fires were reported in Kyiv following drone debris falls.

Hungary recieved a one-year Russian sanctions exemption from the USA after Orban–Trump talks in Washington

The U.S. granted Hungary a one-year exemption from sanctions on Russian oil and gas following a meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on November 7.

Orbán announced that Hungary received a full sanctions waiver for the TurkStream and Druzhba pipelines. Reuters confirmed the exemption’s one-year duration.

A close ally of both Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Orbán has resisted pressure to halt purchases of Russian energy. After sanctions were imposed on Russian oil companies in late October, he said Hungary was seeking ways to “circumvent” them.

Trump justified the exemption by citing Hungary’s lack of access to seaports, calling it “a great country, but they don’t have the ports,” making energy imports difficult.

In addition to the exemption, Hungary and the U.S. agreed on a deal for Westinghouse to supply nuclear fuel for Hungary’s Paks I power plant, and Budapest will also purchase U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) to diversify supplies.

The two leaders also discussed the war in Ukraine, presenting themselves as potential mediators. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said Budapest is ready to host peace talks “once preparations are complete.” Trump said he believes the war “will end in the not too distant future,” while Orbán added that he has “some ideas” to share with Trump.
