Russia breaks 3-day ceasefire as strikes kill 1, injure 19 across Ukraine
Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least one civilian and injured at least 19 others over the past 24 hours, despite the supposed three-day ceasefire declared between Russia and Ukraine, regional authorities reported on May 10.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russian forces launched 27 drones overnight from Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Millerovo, all of which were reportedly intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses.
In Kharkiv Oblast, three people were injured in Russian strikes, according to Governor Oleh Syniehubov. Overnight, a Russian drone struck a residential building in the Industrial district of Kharkiv. Five people, including two eight-year-old boys, suffered shock but did not sustain physical injuries.
In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a three-year-old girl was injured in Russian drone attacks during the day and overnight, Governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported. The child was hospitalized and is in moderate condition.
Russian attacks in Donetsk Oblast injured four people over the past day, Governor Vadym Filashkin said. Apartment buildings, homes, cars, and a shop were damaged. Authorities recorded 18 separate strikes on settlements across the oblast.
In Kherson Oblast, seven people, including a child, were injured in Russian aerial and artillery attacks, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin. Russian forces targeted residential areas as well as critical and social infrastructure. A multi-story apartment building and eight private homes were damaged.
Russian drone and artillery strikes in Zaporizhzhia Oblast killed one person and injured three others, including a child, Governor Ivan Fedorov reported. Russian forces carried out 780 strikes on 33 settlements across the region during the 24-hour period.
In Sumy Oblast, a 47-year-old man was injured when a Russian drone struck a car, local authorities said. Homes and civilian infrastructure were also damaged, while more than 50 attacks were recorded across 18 settlements.
In Chernihiv Oblast, Russian forces carried out FPV drone strikes on border areas, according to Governor Viacheslav Chaus. Critical and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged during 33 recorded strikes, though no casualties were reported.
The attacks occurred during a declared three-day ceasefire running from May 9–11. Donald Trump announced the ceasefire initiative on May 8 after both Moscow and Kyiv presented separate proposals.
Although the skies over both countries were quieter than usual during the first night of the truce, the drone strike on Kharkiv and continued frontline combat suggested the pause in hostilities was limited. Ukraine’s General Staff reported 147 combat clashes along the front line over the past day despite the ceasefire declaration.
POW exchange must take place, US has guaranteed its implementation - Zelensky
Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine has handed over a list of 1,000 prisoners of war to Russia as part of preparations for a large-scale prisoner exchange and expects the United States to help ensure the agreement is carried out.
In his evening address on May 10, Zelenskyy said Ukraine remains in contact with the U.S. regarding guarantees tied to the agreements recently discussed between Kyiv and Moscow.
“We are in contact with the U.S. side regarding the guarantees of the agreements that were recently reached and which the U.S. president has spoken about,” Zelensky said.
According to the Ukrainian president, preparations are underway for a “1,000-for-1,000” prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia. He stressed that the exchange “must take place” and said its implementation had been guaranteed by the American side.
Zelensky added that Ukraine’s coordination headquarters has already transferred the list of 1,000 Ukrainian prisoners of war to the Russian side.
“There was American mediation in this exchange agreement – accordingly, we expect the American side to be active in ensuring that these agreements are fulfilled,” he said.
