The Su-34 was reportedly attempting to attack Ukrainian positions with guided aerial bombs on the eastern front when it was intercepted and taken down at 9 a.m. local time. This incident follows a notable period in February when Russia lost 13 warplanes in just two weeks.

The 17 Shahed-type drones were launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia's Krasnodar Krai and from occupied Crimea. Ukrainian forces successfully downed 14 of these drones, which targeted areas including Odesa, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. However, the attacks resulted in damage and civilian casualties, with at least two people killed and seven injured in Odesa and three injured in Kharkiv Oblast.

In addition to the drone attacks, Russian forces utilized air-launched cruise missiles Kh-59/Kh-35 from occupied parts of Kherson and Donetsk oblasts. The ongoing hostilities underscore the challenges faced by Ukraine in defending against various types of aerial threats.

The successful interception of drones and the downing of the Su-34 demonstrate the resilience and effectiveness of Ukrainian forces in countering Russian aggression. As the conflict evolves, the Ukrainian military adapts and responds to emerging threats, highlighting the importance of maintaining robust defense capabilities.

The international community closely monitors these developments, emphasizing the need for diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing conflict and ensure the security and stability of the region.
