Russia has attacked Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles overnight

Smoke in Dnipro rises after the Russian ballistic missile hit

Russia launched a wave of ballistic missile attacks against Ukraine overnight on July 26, with the brunt of the strikes hitting Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

The northeastern city of Kharkiv was under continuous assault throughout the night as Russian drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs struck the city and nearby areas.

Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov said four Russian KAB-type guided bombs hit the city's Kyivskyi district. Later, two ballistic missiles also struck the same area. A separate drone strike in the district injured a 57-year-old man, he added.

In Zmiiv, another city in Kharkiv Oblast, three people were injured in attacks, including a 50-year-old man, Syniehubov reported. Officials are still assessing the full extent of the damage and casualties.

Earlier on July 25, a Russian glide bomb attack in Kharkiv killed one person and wounded 17 others, including a child.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast also endured missile and drone strikes overnight. As of the morning of July 26, one fatality was confirmed.

Governor Serhii Lysak said earlier that missiles struck the Kamianske district, sparking multiple fires across the area. In the city of Dnipro, the regional center, one person was killed and another injured in the attacks.

In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that Russia launched at least nine Shahed drones overnight. Several fires broke out in the Zaporizhzhia district, damaging multiple civilian buildings. In the Polohiv district, a farm warehouse was damaged, and a private home was completely destroyed.

The widespread overnight attacks came just two days after Russia and Ukraine held a third round of peace talks in Istanbul on July 23. The talks ended without a ceasefire deal, despite U.S. President Donald Trump warning Moscow he would impose steep tariffs if Russia doesn’t reach an agreement within 50 days.

The Kremlin continues to reject Ukraine's and the international community’s calls for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Russia has escalated its aerial assault campaign across Ukrainian cities during the spring and summer, repeatedly setting new records for the scale and frequency of its drone and missile attacks.

Russian missiles destroyed a supermarket in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Russian missile strikes hit the Epicentre hardware supermarket in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, overnight between July 25 and 26, the company reported.

According to a Facebook post from Epicentr: "A hypermarket spanning over 11,000 square meters has been completely destroyed. This is another devastating loss for our company and yet another attack on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure."

Despite the destruction, the company confirmed that none of its employees were injured in the attack.

Epicentr said it "certainly" plans to resume operations in Kamianske in the future.

The company also reported that since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, seven of its hypermarkets and shopping centers—located in Mariupol, Chernihiv, Bucha, Nikopol, Kharkiv, and two in Kherson—have been completely destroyed, totaling more than 125,600 square meters of lost retail space.

Two additional centers have closed due to damage or their location near active combat zones. The Epicentr store in Melitopol remains under Russian occupation.

A large-scale combined attack on Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast killed two people, injured five

Russian forces carried out a large-scale, combined attack on the city of Dnipro and surrounding areas in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast overnight on July 25-26, killing two civilians and injuring five others, while triggering multiple fires and widespread damage.

The attack was described as "a terrible night" by Serhii Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration, in a Telegram update.

"According to preliminary information from the Air Command, seven missiles and 26 drones were intercepted by our air defense units. Unfortunately, some strikes still hit their targets," Lysak said.

In Dnipro, a man was killed and a woman injured. A residential high-rise was struck, and several industrial facilities sustained damage. Fires broke out across the city, including a blaze in a parking lot that engulfed multiple vehicles.

The surrounding Dnipro district was also hit hard. A shopping center went up in flames, along with other commercial sites and patches of dry grass at various locations.

Lysak confirmed that in the Dnipro district, one additional person was killed and four more were injured.

Russia hits a hospital in Kharkiv with a glide bomb bomb, killing 1, and injuring 14

A Russian guided aerial bomb struck a medical facility in Kharkiv’s Industrialnyi district on the morning of July 26, killing one person and injuring at least 14 others, local officials said.

The strike occurred around 11:30 a.m., according to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov. "In the Industrialnyi district, a guided bomb hit the building of a medical facility. Nearby is another building used for patient treatment… There is information about one fatality caused by the Russian guided bomb," he said.

Terekhov initially reported that six people were injured and later added that a residential house near the facility had also been damaged in the attack.

Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed that the bomb struck the facility's roof. Among the injured is a 12-year-old girl suffering from an acute stress reaction.

By 1:00 p.m., Syniehubov reported that the number of wounded had risen to 12, with four people hospitalized. At 2:23 p.m., he confirmed that the total had climbed to 14 injured.

A meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin in 30 days seems unlikely

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that the remaining 30 days of the 50-day deadline given by U.S. President Donald Trump for a peace deal in the war against Ukraine are unlikely to be enough to arrange a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The comments were reported by Kremlin-aligned Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

"A meeting at the highest level can and should finalize the settlement and confirm the terms of the agreements, which must be developed through detailed expert-level work. There’s simply no other way," Peskov said. "Can such a complicated process be completed in 30 days? Obviously, that’s unlikely."

Peskov also emphasized that Russia’s position is reflected in the draft memorandum it gave to Ukraine during the second round of talks, and that this position remains “diametrically” opposed to what Ukraine has proposed in its own draft.

“These positions aren’t something that can be aligned instantly,” he said. “It will require extremely complex diplomatic work.”
