Two Major energy facilities in Russia hit by Ukrainian drones strike Kyiv
Ukrainian drones reportedly attacked key energy facilities in Russia, including the Volgograd oil refinery and the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant, overnight on Feb. 3, according to a source from Ukraine's Security Service (SBU).
The coordinated strikes, operated by the SBU and Special Operations Forces, targeted multiple critical components of the Volgograd refinery, owned by Russian energy giant Lukoil. These included the flare farm, primary processing units, and technological sections.
Additionally, damage was reported at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant, where operations have reportedly been halted as fires continue to burn.
Both facilities are described as significant fuel suppliers for the Russian military.
“The Volgograd oil refinery processes almost 6% of all oil in Russia,” the source stated.
This incident marks the fifth attack on Russian energy infrastructure in 2025. Previous strikes targeted another Lukoil facility in Volgograd on Jan. 31, along with a refinery in Ryazan, a distillery in Tambov Oblast, and a chemical plant in Bryansk. The Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of Russia’s largest, remains offline due to extensive damage.
Russian authorities confirmed fires and drone attacks in the Volgograd and Astrakhan oblasts overnight, while Ukraine’s General Staff later claimed responsibility for the operation.
Nearly 63,000 people are missing in Ukraine due to the war
According to Artur Dobroserdov, Ukraine's Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, nearly 63,000 people, including civilians and military personnel, are currently listed as missing under special circumstances. Authorities have successfully located and identified the bodies of over 10,000 individuals.
Most of those registered disappeared in combat zones or occupied territories. The register also includes cases linked to emergencies and natural or man-made disasters.
Since the beginning of 2024, nearly 30,000 Ukrainians have been officially reported missing. Despite ongoing efforts, 59,000 individuals are still being searched for.
As of January 1, 2025, 9,255 cases have been resolved, with 3,923 people found alive and 5,332 bodies identified.
The register also records more than 3,200 unidentified bodies.
Tragically, over 1,700 children remain missing due to the ongoing war, as of October 2024.
Russian forces increase pressure on Andriivka, Donetsk Oblast

Russian forces are intensifying their assault on Andriivka in Donetsk Oblast, making concerted efforts to break through from multiple directions, according to the DeepState analytical project.
The Russians are actively attacking Ukrainian defense positions to the north of Andriivka, advancing from Slovianka and Petropavlivka along ravines leading to the Yasenove-Andriivka road. On the northeastern outskirts of the village, Russian troops have entrenched themselves, increasing their attempts to push deeper, using fortified positions.
DeepState analysts reported that Russian infantry is also attempting to break through from the village of Shevchenko, moving along engineering and fortification structures connected to Andriivka. In the southern sector, efforts are focused between Ulakly and Dachne, which could open up new assault opportunities on the village.
Following initial success in penetrating the outskirts of Andriivka, Russian forces appear to have seen a chance to advance further. "They are sending infantry to the slaughter with the task of 'die but make it,'" DeepState noted, highlighting the brutal tactics being employed.
Despite these challenges, Ukrainian defenders are holding their positions against the intensified assault, doing their best to prevent Russian forces from gaining control of the strategic village.
