A voice of Ukraine to the West
Zelensky and Trump are set to meet in Florida on December 28 for a high-level peace talks
President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on December 28 in Florida as part of ongoing efforts to end Russia’s nearly four-year full-scale war against Ukraine, a source in the Presidential Office said.
Zelensky confirmed the upcoming meeting earlier this week, saying Kyiv and Washington had agreed to talks “at the highest level” and that “a lot can be decided before the New Year.” The meeting is expected to take place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
According to Zelensky, the talks will focus on security guarantees, economic cooperation, and unresolved issues, including Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. He said a revised 20-point peace plan is about 90% complete and described the meeting with Trump as an opportunity to finalize it.
Zelensky also stressed that Ukraine’s position remains constructive, but warned that if Russia refuses to engage, it would signal insufficient pressure on Moscow — a topic he plans to raise directly with Trump.
The president added that elections during wartime are possible only with legislative changes and strong security guarantees, and said Ukraine could also consider a referendum on the most sensitive issues. “It is fair that the fate of Ukraine is decided by the Ukrainian people,” he said.
Ahead of the meeting, Zelensky held a nearly hour-long call with Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss key details of the peace talks. He said several documents are already nearly complete, including a revised peace framework, draft security guarantees involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Europe, and an economic cooperation roadmap with Washington.
Zelensky emphasized that any final agreement would require the participation of Russia and European partners.
Russia supposedly prepares fresh large-scale strike on Ukraine's power system
Ukraine’s state-owned grid operator Ukrenergo warned that Russia is preparing another large-scale strike on the country’s energy infrastructure, citing a recurring pattern in recent attacks.
Ukrenergo chief Vitalii Zaichenko said Russian forces have been launching major assaults on the power system roughly every 10 days since the start of autumn, making another attack likely in the near term. He noted that forecasting exact timing remains difficult.
According to Zaichenko, each large-scale strike significantly disrupts grid operations, forcing emergency power outages as operators struggle to rebalance the system after damage.
Putin claims that the USA is interested in comanaging the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant without Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that the United States is interested in jointly managing the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant without Ukraine’s involvement and in developing mining facilities at the site.
Speaking to business leaders, Putin said talks with the USA include proposals for joint management of the plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility, which has been under Russian occupation since 2022. He also asserted that Washington has raised the possibility of mining operations there.
Putin added that the U.S. has proposed supplying electricity from the plant to Ukraine and claimed that Ukrainian staff continue to work at the facility but now hold Russian passports.
