Explosions in Bucha district: number injured rises to 52, including 5 children, 38 people killed
A total of 38 people were killed and 52 others injured, including five children, following a Russian strike and subsequent explosions in the village of Myla in Kyiv Oblast’s Bucha district on August 28.
According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, nine of those injured remain in hospital, with doctors describing their condition as moderate.
Around 300 buildings in Myla and nearby settlements were damaged, including more than 200 houses and 14 apartment buildings. State Emergency Service crews have extinguished all fires caused by the strike and subsequent explosions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed on Aug. 30 that the death toll had risen to 38.
Ukrainian drones destroy Russian air defense, radar systems at Yeysk
Ukraine carried out overnight long-range strikes on Russian military infrastructure, destroying air defense and radar systems at two military airfields, Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi said on August 30.
According to Madyar, Ukrainian drones targeted the Yeysk airfield in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai and the Millerovo airfield in Rostov Oblast.
At Yeysk, Ukrainian forces reportedly destroyed a Pantsir-S1 air defense system, a Sopka-2 radar and an aviation weapons depot. At Millerovo, they reportedly destroyed Kasta 2E2, RSP-27 and Nebo-SV radar systems, along with aviation infrastructure and a depot.
Madyar said additional reconnaissance confirmed the destruction of the Russian air defense and radar systems. He added that the main target at Millerovo was a DRL-27 module of Russia’s RSP-27 aircraft landing radar system, which is used to detect aerial targets and manage air traffic at the airfield.
The strikes are part of Ukraine’s expanding campaign against Russian military and energy infrastructure far behind the front lines. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on August 28 that Ukraine should significantly increase the number of long-range drone strikes against Russia, setting a goal of launching up to 1,000 such drones per day.
Ukraine currently launches more than 300 long-range drones on average each day, Zelensky said, as Russia continues large-scale drone and missile attacks against Ukrainian cities.
Russia attacked Ukraine with two Iskander missiles and 130 drones overnight; Daytime prolonged attack on Kyiv
Russia attacked Ukraine overnight on August 29-30 with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 130 drones of various types, with strikes recorded at 13 locations, Ukraine’s Air Force reported.
Russian forces launched the missiles from Russia’s Kursk Oblast, along with 130 Shahed and Gerbera loitering munitions, S8000 Banderol drone missiles and Parodiya decoy drones. Most of the drones involved in the attack were reportedly jet-powered.
Ukraine’s air defenses shot down or jammed 125 Russian drones, according to early reports. Debris from intercepted targets fell at four locations, while some Russian weapons failed to reach their intended targets.
The attack on Kyiv continued on August 30. As of 15:40, two people had been injured in the Russian drone attack, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration. A non-residential building caught fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district, while drone debris damaged the facade of a two-story café in the Holosiivskyi district. Another drone fell in a residential area of the Pecherskyi district, with information on damage and casualties still being confirmed.
As of 16:05, Kyiv had issued its eighth air-raid alert of the day as Russian drones remained in the city’s airspace. Emergency services continued working at the affected sites.
